Thank you Jepa! Totally agree that where you live is what you make of it. For now, we’re making the most of the sun and mountains and get out skiing on amazing ski hills. If we find we’re not doing that as much in the future, it might be time to look for a change.

What brought you out to VI 15 years ago and what’s keeping you there? The real estate market there has been nuts lately (good for you, not for me haha!) but yes you can definitely use it as geoarbitrage in or out of Canada as there are so many lower cost of living areas in comparison.

Would love to hear more about your VI vs AB comparison as you have a ton of experience in both places

In reply to Court and Nic. Congrats on the house, it's beautiful. Great move by the way. I wouldn't lament a VI move. I'm from Alberta, lived 20 years in Calgary but have been on VI for about 15 years now; but honestly I love Alberta too. Where you live is what you make of it. I would move back to Alberta in a heart beat...and might if my house keeps appreciating out here (geoarbitrage!). It would definitely accelerate my SlowFI.

Thank you Kim! We too love the idea of a move to Nelson one day. For now, our current set up suits our wants and desires but I can definitely still see us making a move to somewhere in BC at some point! Congrats on making the quick move yourself years ago – its hectic and chaotic but I’m sure all worthwhile in the long run 🙂

Congratulations! Love the place. Sometimes the quick decisions work out – follow your gut.
20 years ago when our kids were young we were pondering a move from Alberta to BC. We stumbled on Nelson and then everything moved super fast. 2 months later we were here!
That was before the housing market got hot. Lucky us. Anyway, looks like you have an ideal situation where you are. Very happy for you.
